The KS QSO Party 2024
FHARC participated in the KS QSO Party on Aug. 24 & 25, 2024.
The Kansas QSO Party is an annual amateur radio event where operators aim to make contacts with all 105 counties in Kansas. It’s a fantastic opportunity for ham radio enthusiasts to connect and compete.
Gathering at the Schlueters home, KD0WAU, KD0WAT, KD0IJP, KC0IFQ, KC4CRH, K0JDL participated and made 302 QSO contacts!
John, K0JDL brought over his Tower Trailer and we attached KD0IJP, Steve’s dipole antenna and KD0WAT, Wayne’s rotor to the tower.
We got up there to about 40 feet. The tower was parked in the driveway from Friday night through Sunday night. The HOA in Green Valley approved!! .
There is always food at FHARC events. On Sunday KC0NOI, Shin-Ae sent chocolate covered graham cracker bites and KC0IFQ, Dennis’s XYL, Sally sent over chocolate chip cookies. Great sugar high!!
Using the call sign, WØT, operators made 295 SSB contacts on 40 and 20 meters. 7 contacts were made using FT8 on 20 meters.
We connected to 39 states, made 11 QSOs with Canada and one contact with the Slovak Republic. We made contact with 5 counties in Kansas.
Total DX miles (QSOs in USA not counted) – 20,096.
Unofficially from 3830 scores website we were in ninth place in our category Single-Op Low Power, 100W max, one transmitter signal- MI XED (SO Mixed LP) but first in the category for SSB. If we were in the SO SSB LP category we would have placed fourth.
Our official log was uploaded to the KSQSOParty. We also submitted our scores to the 3830scores.com website. The 3830 site’s stated purpose is to “make it easier for contestants to share their claimed scores and comments immediately after a contest”.
The 3830 website is the reporting system used by contests and QSO parties from around the world to get immediate feedback after the event. You can also see what Contests are occurring now and in the future.
Operators post their scores to 3830 and often include a description of their operation. QSO parties are judged by the number of 3830 reports generated in order to rank them by popularity. In other words, the more 3830 reports, the more popular a QSO party is. This is where the Kansas QSO Party’s high standing comes from, and if you check out the reports, you’ll see some glowing comments about our operations and about the KSQP in general.
In any case we did GREAT!
Congratulations members. We can be proud.
