Return to Beaumont
The Beaumont Community Center has proved a favorite location for members of FHARC for setting up radio stations for special events or field day activities. Once again in 2022 we returned Oct. 22 for a great time of ham radio and fellowship with others.
John Lucas (KØJDL) brought his tower trailer again this year that let’s us get an antenna high in the air. It was pretty windy this day and he had to do some extra guying so it didn’t blow down.
Wayne Schlueter (KDØWAT) set up a homemade dipole antenna for 20 meters. He attached a 32-foot-tall fiberglass pole to his truck and extended the ends of the dipole wires out to two painter poles. This guy’s always so organized.
Sadly, I missed out on the breakfast burritos prepared by Shin-Ae (KCØNOI). I heard they were delicious.
Club members are a great source of information and learning opportunities from those using various technologies. Barb (KDØWAU) educated me on how to setup and use Echo-Link for hosting nets and other uses.
Getting together with members of FHARC is much more than just enjoying the ham radio hobby. I especially like the friendships that are developed and like spending more time socializing than I do talking on the radio.
Of course, the main purpose of setting up a special event station WØT is to get on the air and make contacts. It’s a great opportunity to communicate to people everywhere about Beaumont.
